Candidate (The Black Mage #3) by Rachel E. Carter

I love this series!

Goodreads Rating: 4.10 Stars

Description: Welcome to the Candidacy. Where dreams go to die.

Twenty-year-old Ryiah is a black mage of Combat, but she’s not the Black Mage. Yet. She’s had her eyes on the legendary robe for as long as she can remember, and in just one year, she will have a chance at her country’s prestigious–and only–tourney for war mages… Too bad she is going up against a certain prince–the one person she has yet to beat.

The Candidacy finally arrives and a winner is robed, but something dark is lurking in her kingdom’s midst. Rival nations are closing in, and it’s time to make an alliance.

Unfortunately for Ryiah, that’s only the beginning. The worst enemy resides in the palace.

*** The third book in The Black Mage series by USA Today bestselling author Rachel E. Carter. ***

Now if you have read my other two reviews you know that I am completely in love with this series. I love Ryiah. She is amazing. However, I do have some issues with this book. It was a lot slower than the other two and took me a bit longer to get through. (Actually about 3x as long!) But we all know that it is necessary to build the story in series like this. This book was all about building the story. A lot of important information but nothing to amazing. The middle part about the candidacy and the very end were really good, but the rest of it wasn’t.

With that said, the next book should be amazing! The last 20 pages reveles a whole new world of shit and I can’t wait to see it explode!

Rachel E Carter’s writing style is getting quite a bit better too. I felt like it was very simple at the beginning but it is grttinmore enjoyable for me to read now!

I would on,y give this book 4 out of 5 stars, but it is still really good and I highly recommend this series!
