Non-Heir (The Black Mage #0.5) by Rachel E. Carter

I LOVE Darren!

Goodreads Rating: 4.15 Stars

Description:  Prince. Prodigy. Mage. Perfect for fans of Throne of Glass, Falling Kingdoms, and Tamora Pierce.

This prequel novella is set before the events of First Year (The Black Mage Book 1), following Prince Darren as a child through adolescence and his first run-in with Ryiah at the Academy of Magic.

Readers discover the dark backstory between the two princes and their father, as well as the ensuing events that shaped Darren into the Academy’s most prodigal mage.

*** The prequel to The Black Mage series by USA Today bestselling author Rachel E. Carter. ***

I know you guys are probably tired of hearing this but I really do love this series! I promise I’m not usually this nice to books. Something about this series just grabbed me and refused to let go. I mean it’s even haunting my dreams! This entire story has me wrapped up like nothing (well except Harry Potter) ever has. My friends are getting annoyed because I keep talking about it and repeating myself and recommending it, but I just can’t help it! The Black Mage series is something I am so glad I came across!

Now on to Non-Heir! This book was quite a bit shorter than the rest of them as a novella rather than a novel, but I really wish it was a novel. I finished it and want more! I love getting an inside look at what is going on inside Darren’s mind and would happily buy 5 more books about him and his life.

If you haven’t read the other books, you obviously can’t start with this one. It contains too many details that would ruin the other books if you started with it. I read this one before I read Last Stand (starting that one tomorrow) because it was released before Last Stand. I always feel like the order something is released in is the order you need read (or watch) it in.

I fell in love with Darren in the very first one and this one just made it all the more real. Learning the more intricate details of his past really helps to understand some of the moves that he makes throughout the series.

I honestly believe writing this book was the best choice that Rachel E. Carter has ever made! The best part? She is giving it away for free! Like I said before I would gladly pay for five more of them! I highly (very highly) recommend that everyone give this series a shot because this is a world that I love to escape to! I found this series less than a week ago and I have already read 4 out of the 5 books!

Who is ready for THE LAST STAND?!
