Should You Read The Classics?

Should You Read the Classics?

This is a popular question in the reading community and I decided that today I would answer it.

I think that reading the classics, or at least some of the classics is extremely important. Now I don’t mean reading them in school. Most people have to read at least one classic in school and most of the time they hate it.

I mean read it for fun. Read it by choice.

Reading a classic by choice makes all the difference in whether you are going to like it or not. I hate reading for school assignments. My teacher (I’m in college now) could assign my favorite book as homework and I’m still not going to want to do it.

Reading the classics helps you to expand your language skills and your comprehension. Plus, you will be able to say that you read them.

Recently, I have found that I am really enjoying the classics. They are more interesting than I ever expected them to be! I still have many more to read, but I am actually looking forward to it!

If you are interested in trying your hand at a classic or two, here are my recommendations:

  1. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
  2. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
  3. The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett
