National Novel Writing Month.
I can’t believe it is already time for this again. It doesn’t feel like November and I came into this challenge completely unprepared. I wasn’t planning on doing NaNoWriMo this year, but at the last minute (meaning November 1st) I decided, why not?
I am already regretting this decision and day one isn’t even over yet.
However, NaNoWriMo means a lot to me. If it wasn’t for NaNo I don’t know if I ever would have realized that I could finish the first draft of a novel. I had tried a few times but had never gotten very far, until I signed up for NaNo two years ago.
I started the first draft of one of my projects on November 1. By November 30th, I had a 97k completed first draft of that project. I was stunned. I never thought it would have been possible.
Well, I have been going in and out of a writing slump for the past few months and I have decided to let NaNo work it’s magic again. I am aiming for that 50,000 word count, but I think it is a lot more important to me that I learn to make time for my writing again. My most important goal for this month is to write every single day. Even if I only write 100 words.
I am also not going to force myself to work on one project. I have several projects that have been bouncing around in my brain for a while asking for attention. So I plan to write whatever I feel like writing that day.
This isn’t the way most people approach NaNo, but I am using NaNo to fall in love with writing again, to allow myself to write badly.
So I am really excited to jump in. I will do a few check-ins over the course of the month, but I will mainly be focused on getting the words on the page!
